Dear Fellow Varicocele Sufferer,

author Bob Maloney
Bob Maloney

Do you wish you had a way to stop the pain of swollen testicle veins? Are you afraid of surgery or can't afford it? Then keep reading because as I tell you my story of how I struggled to overcome my own painful varicocele and ultimately succeeded, you can begin to realize that you too can find relief, and the more you read about my success in overcoming a painful varicocele, the more you will want to discover the secrets of my success. Along the way I will explain what a varicocele is and how to diagnose it.

I've been living with a varicocele for years. In early 1998 it became clear to me that something was wrong. I was experiencing testicular pain whenever I sat for more than an hour at my computer or at a restaurant on a date. During sex, I would sometimes have to admonish my girlfriend not to be so rough, because if she squeezed too hard I would experience terrible pain.

It slowly dawned on me that such pain is not normal. Yes, it is normal to hurt like hell if you get kicked in the scrotum, but playful fondling should not be painful. Right? And wouldn't you agree that just sitting in a chair should not be painful?

My Long Search For a Varicocele Cure

So, I began to research on the internet. Each possibility I explored seemed to lead to a dead end, but one day while reading about hydroceles I saw a mention of a thing called a varicocele. So I looked it up. The more I read about varicoceles, the more convinced I was that I had figured out what my problem was. What clinched it was the description of the swollen veins in the scrotum feeling like a bag of worms (dead worms, of course, not live wriggling worms). Bingo! My self-diagnosis was later confirmed by a doctor.

A varicocele is really just a bunch of varicose (i.e. swollen) veins in the scrotum. I had already noticed a few varicose veins elsewhere, so this made sense. The varicocele was just another symptom of weak veins.

I learned that varicoceles are common. About 15% of all men have a varicocele. Holy cow! That's one in every seven men!

How to Diagnose a Varicocele

Do this simple test to see if you have a varicocele. Take off your clothes. Stand up. Feel your scrotum. Cough several times as you do this. A varicocele becomes more pronounced when you cough. Do you feel any bulging veins?

In the advanced stages, it will feel like a bag of worms. In the early stages, you may feel a few slightly enlarged veins. Some people already feel pain in the very early stages, before the veins become noticeably enlarged.

The veins come down from above and wrap around the testicles, so it may feel as though one or both testicles are enlarged. You have two testicles, one on each side of the scrotum. Each has its own vein supply, and usually only one side will become enlarged, usually the left side.

Each testicle is egg shaped, smaller than most bird eggs, bigger than a marble. It feels something like a hard rubber ball, normally. When surrounded by swollen veins, it may feel softer. You should be able to give it a gentle squeeze without feeling pain. If you feel any pain while squeezing, you may have a varicocele.

My Search for a Varicocele Cure Continues

It wasn't until September 1999 that I sought help from a medical specialist and he confirmed that I did indeed have a varicocele.

I delayed seeking treatment for 2 reasons. One, doctors are expensive and I was poor, with no insurance. Two, I don't trust doctors. It seems like their solution to everything is either dope you up with expensive drugs, or cut you open with a sharp knife. Both of my parents died while under the care of a doctor.

But my early efforts to treat my varicocele were not successful and I was in pain. So, flush with cash from a lucrative consulting contract, I broke down and contacted a doctor. My first problem was figuring out what kind of doctor to see. I didn't want to waste time and money going to a General Practitioner because I knew that he, assuming he didn't misdiagnose me, would just refer me to a specialist, then bill me for his "services." I decided I would save money by cutting out the middleman and go directly to the specialist. But what kind of specialist?

I looked through the yellow pages at the different specialties. Nothing there jumped out at me. The best I could figure was that I should go to a vein specialist, because a varicocele is, after all, a varicose (swollen) vein in an inconvenient place. So I contacted a vein specialist, but I quickly realized the receptionist didn't know what I was talking about. A few more calls led to the discovery that urologists deal with this issue.

This made me a little uncomfortable. I would much rather be treated by a vein specialist for a vein problem than by a guy who specializes in treating urinary tract infections. I was hoping they could just do a little laser treatment, like they do on women's legs to treat varicose veins. Unfortunately, the uro guys have nothing like that. Knives, thread and balloons. That's all they've got. Welcome to the 19th century.

I went to see a urologist and was quickly diagnosed as having a varicocele. It was pretty obvious, as my varicocele was in an advanced stage. The veins on the left side of my scrotum were quite enlarged and tender. My balls were hanging low and heavy. Do you know what I mean?

What was his recommendation? I'll give you one guess, and this clue: it wasn't drugs. If you've been paying attention, you know that only leaves one thing. Surgery. "As soon as possible," he said. "It'll cost you $5,000. Make the check out to me. Have somebody pick you up at the hospital, you won't be able to drive home. It'll leave a scar no worse than an appendectomy, and there is only a small chance that I'll accidentally cut an artery instead of a vein and your testicles will shrivel up and die. And well, of course, anytime you are put under general anesthesia, there is a chance you could die. But I'm willing to take that risk."

I said "Wow, Doc, look at the time! I gotta run." I ain't been back.

Does surgery scare you? It sure scares me! I did seriously consider having the surgery. By that time, I had saved $5,000, so it wasn't the cost that was holding me back. Oh sure, having worked hard to save up that much money, I certainly didn't want to give it all away to a doctor. But I was desperate to be rid of the varicocele. Have you ever felt that way? So, in spite of the risks, I decided to have the surgery.

How big a scar?

Appendectomy scar

But, my thoughts kept coming back to his answer to my question "how big a scar?" Over and over again I heard him saying to me "a scar the size of an appendectomy scar." Well, I knew a woman with an appendectomy scar, and I had always thought that it was a tragedy that such a beautiful woman is disfigured by such an awful scar. I'm a single man who enjoys sex. I don't want a nasty scar in such an intimate location. It would make me feel less desirable. Do you know what I mean?

Considering surgery? Better read this first.

The Maloney Plan for Varicocele Treatment Without Surgery

I never did have the surgery. Instead, I vowed to learn as much as I could about varicoceles and find a way to heal my varicocele naturally. I firmly believe that the body has great self-healing powers, if only we can find a way to tap into these powers. I also believe that most health problems are of our own doing, and if we figure out what we are doing wrong and stop doing it, we will get better.

So with these two principles in mind, I set out on a quest to find a natural treatment for varicocele. It was a long road. At first, everything I tried failed. But I did not give up. If nothing else, I'm persistent.

I don't have a fancy medical degree. I have an engineering background. Here's the thing about engineers. We are problem solvers. We figure out how to do things that have never been done before. Engineers find practical solutions to real problems.

I'm a natural born problem solver. I have a history of solving tough problems that no one else can solve. Many times people would come to me with problems they had been working on for hours or even days and often I would have a solution in 15 minutes or less. If I say I'm going to do something, don't tell me it can't be done, because I'll prove you a liar!

Now don't get me wrong, doctors find solutions too. But their solutions usually involve surgery or dangerous prescription drugs. These are not practical solutions, in my mind. Do you agree?

Now, I'll be honest. I didn't solve this problem in 15 minutes, or even 15 days. In fact, it was a good deal more than 15 months. It took several years to solve this problem.

I am going to share with you what I have learned by trial and error in dealing with my own varicocele. I believe that if you follow my recommendations you will, like me, soon be free from the pain and discomfort of your varicocele.

If you read the medical literature, it will become clear that doctors do not know what causes varicoceles. They treat the symptom, not the problem. This is the reason why the rate of recurrence, depending on the procedure, runs as high as 20%.

I read a heart rending account in one of the online forums of a 24 year old man who has a large, painful varicocele just 4 years after varicocele surgery. Imagine spending $5,000 on a painful surgery, only to have to repeat it 4 years later. Is he doomed to repeat the surgery every 4 years for the rest of his life?

Clearly surgery is not an ideal solution. For permanent relief, you must attack the underlying cause of weak veins, which is poor diet.

Foods that hurt you

You will learn which foods to avoid because they aggravate the varicocele and which herbs bring relief. You won't find this life changing information on the internet or at the bookstore, or anywhere else.

In "Varicocele Treatment Without Surgery, A Natural Healing Guide" you will learn which foods to avoid. You will also learn a special exercise to strengthen the scrotal muscles to help fight sagging. When the scrotum is held tight against the body, the veins are not able to expand as much, and you have less weight tugging downward. Both of these factors reduce pain. Swollen veins hurt. Heavy balls hurt.

How long before I get varicocele pain relief?

If you follow the steps I outline, you will begin to see improvement within 6 to 8 weeks. Some readers have reported improvement within days. You'll learn a technique that you can put to use immediately to relieve pain temporarily.

When I started on my quest for a solution in 1998, pain was an everyday occurrence. Now it is a distant memory. I sincerely hope that the information you find in this guide to varicocele treatment and pain relief without surgery will help you improve the quality of your life.

Better sex

How to improve your sex life. Why your varicocele may be sabotaging your sex life, and one simple technique for immediate improvement. This technique will give you harder erections with greater control. You'll also learn an exercise that strengthens the groin muscles. She'll feel greater pleasure, and so will you! Satisfy her needs, or lose her.

Why you shouldn't delay treatment

Because while you delay treating your varicocele, your testicle may be shrinking, resulting in lower testosterone levels. This has profound effects, resulting in decreased vitality and a weakened immune system.

According to Life Extension Magazine, November 2000, declining testosterone levels can lead to a decrease in virility, libido, and sexual activity. It can also cause fatigue, depression, sleep disturbances, loss of body hair and progression of male pattern baldness. In addition low testosterone also translates into decreased muscle mass and strength and an increase in abdominal fat and can lead to diabetes and heart disease.

Do you have a spare tire around the middle? You'll find it tough to get rid of if you have low testosterone levels.

If you have low testosterone levels, the steps I outline in "Varicocele Treatment Without Surgery, A Natural Healing Guide" will boost your testosterone production. Believe me, you will feel the difference. You will feel stronger, have more energy, and have an overall feeling of well being. You'll feel like a tiger on the prowl. Go get 'em, tiger!

Hi Bob

I didn't experience any problems with the download. Although I do have a few queries on Varicoceles. I have had discomfort on the left side of my scrotum for over a year now, I have had various checkups, including ultrasound, STD Swab test and physical examinations by GP. The STD test came back with the all clear. My GP suspected a varicocele, however my veins are not visibly dilated. The results of the Ultrasound scan showed the veins on the left to be slightly more dilated than the right. I have all the varicocele symptoms, for example sitting for more than 45 minutes causes a lot of aching and testicles are very sensitive. I was wondering if you reckon I am definitely a varicocele sufferer? I have begun to do the exercise and I am finding short term relief already.

Many Thanks.

Hello Bob

I have started the exercise and I think I am already seeing results.

E.M.

I recently received a heart rending letter via air mail from a young man from a "very, very poor family" who is far more eloquent than I.

Dear Bob Maloney PLEASE READ THIS!!

I write to you because I am a sufferer of varicocele!! It was a blessin alone that I stumbled onto your site on the internet. I am a 24, soon to be 25 year old man, I live on the Tropical Carribbean Island of Barbados and I desparately need your help!!

As a young teenager, I've always felt this thing in my scrotum, but never really paid it any mind since it wasn't that big so I thought it must be normal, but over the years I've noticed it started to get really long (like a bag of dead worms) as you described it.

At first I thought it was some form of a hernia because my brother (now nineteen) had a hernia operation when he was just about 3 yrs old or so, so I thought I just got mine later down!

Keepin this curse bottled up inside for so long, I finally swallowed my pride and went to see my doctor, because it started to get really big and heavy, and started to hurt!

I went to my doc and said "Doc, I think that I have a hernia!" The doctor then took my blood pressure, then told me to drop my pants! He then felt the area where the varicocele was, (the left side of my scrotum) and said, "It's not a hernia, it's just the veins leading to the testicles that are a little bigger than normal, nothing to worry about!" and charged $59.00!

But I know something was there to worry about, so the very same day I started browsin the internet with my cellphone and came across your article and how you overcame your varicocele without surgery.

The symptoms as you described it fit my description perfectly! I am fairly skinny, I have a low self esteem, I am always tired, I have a increased abdominal fat which I cannot seem to get rid of, even when I do crunches every day, my tummy doesn't go away!

Not to mention the fact that it's possible for me not to be able to father a child from someone I really love just tears me up inside!

I get up in the morning thinkin God why me!? Sometimes I feel like just swallowing poison or something, just to be rid of this misery. I read that surgery can affect the sperm count and that it's possible for the varicocele to come back, not to mention that I come from a very, very poor family! But I will find a way of gettin your money to you even if it kills me!

I need to know that you are for real, and that you can help me, Please, I have no where else to turn, I don't know what else I can do!! I write to you from my heart Bob, PLEASE HELP ME !!!!!!!

Yours desperately,
Philip G.

I have been able to afford very little advertising, so it truly is a blessing, as you say, that you stumbled across this website. Somehow, people just like you do manage to find their way to this website every day, but I know it is but a tiny fraction of the people who need help.

Philip, when I received your letter, I thought "This is like a gift from God." You see, I am a very private person. Creating this page has been a struggle for me.
